Every major Korean director, from Park Chan-Wook (Oldboy) to Bong Joon-Ho (The Host), started out making short films. A few years ago, eleven of Korea's biggest directors established the Mise-en-Scéne Short Film Festival (aka, the MSFF), dedicated to romance, horror, action, social commentary and comedy shorts. It's a science lab where new Korean filmmakers can experiment and also a talent pool where established directors can snag undiscovered geniuses. Many of the MSFF directors have gone on to become some of the industry's top technicians and writers and this year, for the fourth time, we've partnered with the MSFF to bring over the best of last year's festival in two programs.

Program #1 (95 minutes)

Interview with a Courteous Murderer (Jeon Byeong-deock, 9 minutes) - a far better serial killer movie than HANNIBAL and it's only 9 minutes long.

Let Me Know Your Phone Number (Kim Jong-hoon, 19 minutes) - romantic comedy meets action beatdown as a persistent guy keeps getting a fist to the face.

Prelude To An Emotional Fight (Shin Jae-young, 25 minutes) - shades of Shinya Tsukamoto in this warped nightmare about running into old high school pals.

Shall We Take a Walk? (Kim Young-geun, 9 minutes) - a lushly animated short as a blind kid shows his sister how he takes a walk.

His Name is Trevor (Kim Seuk-hwan, 12 minutes) - Trevor has never been outside since he was born because his knees are fused to his chest.

Mom's Holiday (Kim Kwang-bok, 21 minutes) - a sparkling musical comedy about a woman who has never had an orgasm.

Program #2 (101 minutes)

Metal Movie (Park Kyung-kun, 13 minutes) - heavy metal + ridiculous amounts of gore = total satisfaction.

Dust Kid (Jung Yu-mi, 10 minutes) - the first of the shorts focusing on a strange new obsession with four-inch tall women.

Mates (Jason Lee, 21 minutes) - in 21 minutes, this flick packs in more cop/buddy movie excitement than that entire movie with Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan.

Drink and Confess (Yoon Sung-hyun, 4 minutes) - a drunk guy in a bar says exactly the wrong thing.

My Four Inch Precious (Sim Sou-yun, 10 minutes) - what is going on with this obsession with four-inch-tall women? It's getting disturbing.

Don't Step out of the House (Jo Sung-hee, 43 minutes) - the discovery of the MSFF shorts. Two kids abandoned in their house basically go to hell. It's Home Alone meets Last House on the Left.
