Park Kwang-hyun's follow-up to now classic Korean War drama Welcome to Dongmakgol, and his first film in 12 years, is a high-octane revenge fantasy that straddles genres and forms, packing a rapid-fire plot into two hours of visual excess. Fabricated City hits the ground running with a dizzying virtual battle promptly and superbly won by “Captain” Kwon Yu (Ji Chang-wook) and his team of fellow game geeks “Resurrection”. A champion in the gaming world, Kwon is actually an unemployed ne'er-do-well. Reality catches up with him in the roughest manner when he is framed for the rape and murder of a minor. Sentenced to a life term, he nonetheless escapes an unpleasant fate in prison with the unexpected help of a serial killer. A nationwide manhunt ensues. Convinced of Kwon’s innocence, the “Resurrection” team reunites to help their old video game partner, and soon they uncover evidence of an unimaginable conspiracy.
