The main attraction in hell is an ostentatious, kitsch game show where the departed scare the wits out of the living. Newly arrived Wong Hui Kwai doesn’t fit there: he is so apathetic he doesn’t even know how he died. The one thing he remembers is the girl he had a crush on. Madcap supernatural antics ensue as he finds himself back on earth embroiled in the competition. This irreverent horror-comedy about love gone wrong boasts a patently raucous Hong Kong style. It’s a roller coaster ride of modern media informed gags, inventive visual effects, otherworldly plot twists, with pathos to spare.
