This insightful omnibus of gently told stories waxes nostalgic for old Hong Kong while reflecting its rich multicultural fabric. A jaunty old woman recounts funny memories to her Cantonese-speaking Indonesian caretaker while on an urban sojourn; two brothers reminisce in their mom’s Japanese toy store; an American teacher and a local colleague embark on a quiet romance enhanced by local flavors; a young outspoken woman runs for office against a slew of conservative candidates. These diverse narratives paint a wry and tender portrait of one of the world’s most indelible cities.
