The Legend of Tomiris

Available: Aug. 30 - Sept. 12, All USA

A sweeping historical epic, full of sound and fury, but with a decidedly feminist upgrade, this Kazakh actioner traces the real-life exploits of nomad Queen Tomiris and her female Amazon warriors. In the sixth century B.C., Tomiris (Almira Tursyn, born to play the role) overcomes personal tragedy to become a skillful fighter and expert strategist as well as a devoted wife and mother. But an act of enormous treachery forces her into combat, where her armies repel the powerful Persian empire of Cyrus the Great, and she becomes the first to unite the Scythian/Saka tribes on the Great Steppe.
