Junk Head

Seven years in the making and comprising some 140,000 stop-motion shots, this dystopian tale and herculean labor of love is the brainchild of Takahide Hori, who storyboarded, wrote, directed, designed, lit, shot, costumed, and voiced the film, and created all of its visual effects. The eponymous protagonist endures a series of shape-changing adventures after being sent deep underground to the land of the Mulligans, an artificially created species that has developed the ability to reproduce, which could save the nearly extinct human race. Hori’s world may channel the Brothers Quay, Jan Švankmajer, Terry Gilliam, Edward Gorey, Toy Story, and even Lord of the Rings, but it is also uniquely singular and demands to be seen.
