Extreme Festival
Hye-soo, the enterprising CEO of a small event-planning startup (curiously named Jealousy is Our Motto), has landed the seemingly auspicious job of producing the town’s 2nd annual cultural festival to promote their proud historic traditions as well as fresh new talent. She quickly learns the hard way, however, that taking on such a thankless enterprise is a fool’s errand at best. Caught between micromanaging politicians, wily businesspeople, and dwindling ticket sales, she encounters Murphy’s Law every step of the way. Hustling desperately for funding while trying to wrangle both her havoc-prone staff and kibitzing interlopers, the name of the game proves to be chaos. Kim Hong-ki’s wryly astute feature debut offers a sardonic, ground-level view of local Korean culture and society, warts and all, as well as the waking nightmare of trying to celebrate it.
