Naïve bumpkin Lin comes to bustling Taipei to study while working as a gofer. He moves in with his savvy buddy Guo, who shows him a garish new world influenced by Japanese and American culture. When Lin’s father writes asking for money to solve a family crisis, he finds himself caught between the fast-paced demands of the city and family responsibilities of the country. Produced by legendary actress Hsu Feng (A Touch of Zen) this colorfully campy time capsule of 80’s Taiwan features a wacky cast of characters, most of whose crass behavior would probably get them cancelled in this day and age. Yet the timid and well-meaning protagonist retains a moral compass throughout and his wily brother from another mother stands by his side even in his darkest hour.
