Ash Mayfair follows her acclaimed debut The Third Wife with a luminous yet gritty romance set in 1990s Saigon. San (Tran Quan), a transgender woman saving for gender-affirming surgery, and her devoted lover Nam, a cage fighter, face peril when drawn into a dangerous underworld by a manipulative oligarch fascinated with San. This nuanced exploration of LGBTQ+ life and personal freedoms balances raw intensity with dreamlike imagery, showcasing emotionally charged performances, vibrant cinematography, and sensuous direction, capturing love tested to its limits.

Ash Mayfair

Ash Mayfair was born in Vietnam and educated in the UK and the US. She received a BA from Oxford University for English Literature, a post-grad degree from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London for theater directing and graduated with an MFA in filmmaking from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. She has directed numerous plays and short films in the UK and the US, working at the National Theatre in London as an assistant director and in off-Broadway productions in New York as a director. Her short films traveled to multiple international festivals. Her feature debut, The Third Wife, premiered at Toronto International Film Festival in 2018 and went on to win numerous international awards. Skin of Youth is her sophomore feature.
