The Wailing
When it opened in America ten years ago, The Wailing drew unprecedented rave reviews from critics in the US. A Japanese stranger moves into a house in the forest above Gokseong, and a sickness comes in behind him: neighbors break out in boils, then butcher their families in a daze. Jong-gu, a slow-footed country cop, works it like any other case until his own daughter starts to turn, and then he becomes just a father grabbing for anyone who can save her: a shaman, a stranger, a woman in white who keeps appearing to warn him, each one calling the others liars. Na Hong-jin won't tell you who to believe. The ending still in contention over a decade later.
